How to measure your hand

SizeCircumference of Palm (mm)Length of Palm (mm)

Size 8 (Medium)203mm182mm
Size 9 (Large)229mm192mm
Size 10 (Extra Large)254mm204mm

How Warm Are the Thermal Gloves?

The gloves are designed to enable you to handle frozen materials that have a surface temperature of around -10°C, meaning that you should be able to use the gloves comfortably for freezer and cold store work. Their thick design is perfect for the extreme cold, keeping you comfortable and providing enough dexterity to not impede your handling.

How Much Water Can the MaxiTherm Thermal Gloves Withstand?

The MaxiTherm Palm-Coated Gloves feature a latex palm coating that can resist a mild amount of water, which is ideal for handling damp items in a cold store, or outdoors after a spell of rain. They aren't completely waterproof, so we couldn't recommend the gloves for handling items that are submerged in water.

Where Can I Use the MaxiTherm Palm-Coated Gloves?

They are designed for use in tough temperature conditions, with resistance to the cold and heat making them suitable for a diverse list of tasks. Some tasks where we would recommend these gloves include:

  • Arborist
  • Assembly
  • Automotive
  • Baggage handling
  • Cold store
  • Construction
  • Component handling
  • DIY
  • Engineering
  • Fabrication
  • Forestry
  • Freezer
  • Gardening
  • Greenkeeping
  • Hardware
  • Ice handling
  • Industrial
  • Logging
  • Lumber
  • Machinist
  • Mechanics
  • Offshore gas and oil
  • Outdoor work
  • Timber
  • Transportation
  • Warehousing
  • Window cleaning

Please note that this list is just a list of recommendations, they aren't limited to this. For outdoor and indoor applications that demand protection against the elements and a little mechanical protection too, these gloves are perfect.

What Else Can the MaxiTherm Gloves Protect Me Against?

The MaxiTherm Gloves are designed to protect against not just the cold, but from heat and tears too. They have been tested to a range of different standards to ensure that they provide the quality protection that they say that they do. They achieved the following scores:

EN 388

  • 1241B
HazardLevel of Resistance
Abrasion ResistanceLevel 1
Cut ResistanceLevel 2
Tear ResistanceLevel 4
Puncture ResistanceLevel 1
ISO Cut ResistanceLevel B

EN 407

  • X2XXXX
HazardLevel of Resistance
FlammabilityN/A
Contact HeatLevel 2 (250°C)
Convective HeatN/A
Radiant HeatN/A
Molten Metal (Splashes)N/A
Molten Metal (Large Quantities)N/A

EN 511

  • X1X
HazardLevel of Resistance
Convective ColdN/A
Contact ColdLevel 1
Water PermeabilityN/A

What Does This Mean?

With a maximum score of 4, the EN 388 results mean that the gloves offer exceptional resistance to tears, meaning that you can ensure the longevity of your gloves. The good cut resistance combined with this tear resistance means that the gloves offer not just longevity but good mechanical protection to your hands. The gloves also achieve a level 2 in contact heat resistance, meaning you can safely handle items that reach as hot as 250°C for a minimum of 15 seconds.

Finally, the gloves have also been tested to EN 511, measuring their resistance to cold and water. Their level 1 in contact cold resistance means that you can wear the gloves in freezing conditions and handle freezing items without your hands feeling the cold. These results are evidence that the gloves are well suited to dealing with harsh weather environments, and keeping your hands safe in the process.

How Grippy Are the MaxiTherm Palm-Coated Gloves?

The MaxiTherm Gloves feature a micro-foam coating that works to enhance grip while you are wearing the gloves. This roughened palm texture makes handling items a little bit easier, as it is harder for the material that you are handling to slip from your hands. This impressive level of grip is vital during assembly and handling tasks, where dropping items can waste time and money.

How Comfortable Are the MaxiTherm Palm-Coated Gloves?

Designed for tough conditions, the MaxiTherm Palm-Coated Gloves feature an acrylic liner and a palm coating thickness of 2.5mm, meaning that they can keep you incredibly warm when the going gets cold. This warmth improves your comfort during use, perfect for extended tasks in conditions that aren't all that comfortable.

How Tight Is Their Knitwrist?

The knitwrist stretches between 100mm and 122mm depending on the size selected, and is designed to fit tightly around the hand without letting in cold temperatures. This not only keeps your hands warm, but it prevents dirt and debris from entering the gloves and your hands becoming dirty or injured.

How Flexible Are the MaxiTherm Thermal Gloves?

Despite their suitability for freezing conditions, the MaxiTherm Gloves will continue to provide flexibility when conditions reach lower than freezing. This is perfect for freezer work, where you can expect to have to handle items throughout the day with ease. This also helps when handling slippery items too, as their grippy, flexible liner puts you firmly in control.

Can I Wash the MaxiTherm Gloves?

MaxiTherm Gloves are designed to be washed. You can do so by following the below steps:.

  • Use commercial laundry soap (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions)
  • Wash in warm to medium hot water, without exceeding 40°C
  • Wash for 10 minutes
  • Rinse in cold water
  • Repeat wash if soiling is heavy
  • Rinse in cold water

Please note that overall glove performance may be impacted during the wash. It is not recommended that you wash these gloves over 3 times. Full laundry instructions here.

What Materials Are the MaxiTherm Gloves MAde From?

The gloves are designed from a range of different materials. Their construction is as follows:

  • Coating: Natural rubber latex
  • Coating Texture: Micro-foam with non-slip grip
  • Liner: Acrylic, polyester

Washing Instructions

Gloves from ATG can be washed safely in the following way:

1. Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions!)
2. Wash in warm to medium hot water, do not exceed 104°F (40°C)
3. Wash for 10 minutes
4. Rinse in cold water.
5. Repeat wash and rinse if soiling is especially heavy
6. Rinse in cold water
7. Tumble dry - maximum temperature 140°F (60°C)

When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps loosen and remove deep dirt.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the use of gloves and the laundering process glove performance can and will deteriorate. For critical areas requiring cut and heat resistance tests need to be conducted after use and laundering to ensure that the performance criteria still meet the needs of those using the glove. Safety Gloves can accept no liability once gloves have been washed.

What is EN 388?

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 511. EN 511 stands for all things cold, and means that your gloves have been tested for their convective cold resistance, contact cold resistance and water permeability properties.

How Do I Read the EN 511 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score achieved the better the product will be at resisting the hazard tested. For the first two tests (convective cold resistance and contact cold resistance), the product will achieve between a Level 0 and a Level 4. The higher the score the better the resistance, with a Level 0 score meaning that it failed and an N/A score meaning that the product wasn’t tested for this hazard.

For water permeability the product will achieve either a Level 0 or a Level 1. Level 1 means that the product is waterproof, and Level 0 means that it isn't.

Fit well, not so maxi warm

I work in a fridge packing meat orders.
Suffer with cold hands as handling ice packs as part of the picking process.
I also have small hands so been searching for a while for insulating gloves.
These fit well (size 6 xsml)
Great at start of work when body is warm and wrapped up in multi layers, hands stay warm but as soon as I start removing my jacket hands start to cool and don't recover. But I can't keep jacket on as the rest of me is overheating!

Winter warm garden & outdoor DIY

01 December 2020  |

I have trouble getting gloves in my size as I need extra small/small, it was amazing to find such a selection of style and usage options available in my size I was spoilt for choice so decided to stock up on the ones that I use the most which are  house, garden & DIY gloves.

Ordering was easy and the whole order arrived a day earlier than I was expecting, the parcel was left for me by the postie/courier (as I was not home).

I have tried the gloves on and they are a good fit, I will definitely use this site again.
