Which Size of Gloves Should I Select?

The MaxiCut Gloves are available in three different sizes, meaning that you should be able to find the size that's right for you. • Railway maintenance
  • Transportation

Please note that this is just a list of recommendations, and that these gloves would prove suitable in a far wider selection of tasks than those mentioned. They are suitable for most dry work environments where good physical protection is required.

How Cut Resistant Are the MaxiCut Gloves?

The MaxiCut gloves have medium levels of cut and blade cut resistance according to EN 388 standards, and can therefore protect against minor cut risks. This durability is the result of CUTtech technology, which combines and blends high performance yarns and fibres to enhance cut resistance without reducing comfort or flexibility.

How Much Physical Protection Do the MaxiCut Gloves Provide?

The outstanding mechanical resistance of the MaxiCut Gloves is reflected by their EN 388 ratings. To meet this standard, gloves must undergo a series of physical tests and are then marked based on their abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance. The MaxiCut Gloves achieve the following EN 388 ratings:

  • 4443C
HazardLevel of Resistance
Abrasion ResistanceLevel 4
Cut ResistanceLevel 4
Tear ResistanceLevel 4
Puncture ResistanceLevel 3
Blade CutLevel C

What Do These Scores Mean?

Level 4 is the highest possible score for everything except cut resistance and blade cut resistance. Having top levels of abrasion and tear resistance and a very high level of puncture resistance, the MaxiCut Gloves can protect against scrapes, grazes and splintered materials and have fantastic longevity due to their resistance to such damage.

They achieve a good level of cut resistance, which is rated out of 5, and a medium level of blade cut resistance which is rated from A-F. They can therefore protect against minor cut injuries, but are not suitable for use in environments where there is a consistent risk of lacerations.

How Much Grip Do the MaxiCut Gloves Provide?

Rough or heavy materials can cause injury when dropped, and a high level of grip is therefore essential when dealing with them. The MaxiCut Gloves are designed to facilitate safe carrying, featuring a coarse palm coating that stops objects from slipping out of a user's grasp during manual handling applications. As the coating is only applied to the palm, flexibility in other sections of the hand is preserved.

How Dexterous Are the MaxiCut Gloves?

For a high level of dexterity, the MaxiCut Gloves are made with a stretchy nylon and Spandex liner which fits snugly against the hand. Its flexible composition bends to the movement of the hands and fingers while its lightweight construction offers better control over components. This construction enables safer and productive manual handling.

How Durable Are the MaxiCut Gloves?

CUTtech technology ensures that while the MaxiCut Gloves remain relatively lightweight, they are still incredibly resilient. Specially formulated fibres reinforce the nylon liner with glass and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene for maximum durability without excess bulk. On top of this, their reinforced design strengthens inherently weak parts of the glove. Thanks to these features, users can rest easy knowing the protective qualities of their gloves will last.

How Breathable Are the MaxiCut Gloves?

MaxiGlove use their patented AIRtech technology to produce the most breathable gloves on the market. The MaxiCut Cut Level C Gloves are no exception, and offer 360 degree breathability to prevent perspiration or overheating. They can comfortably worn in warm conditions or for extended periods of time.

How Comfortable Are the MaxiCut Gloves?

Hand fatigue and discomfort can reduce a user's dexterity and manual control, so the MaxiCut Gloves are designed to be as comfortable as they are durable. Their nylon and Spandex liner stretches easily with the hand as it bends, ensuring movement is never restricted. It is only this soft nylon liner that rests against the hand, preventing any irritation caused by contact with the nitrile coating.

How Do the MaxiCut Gloves Protect My Skin?

The MaxiCut Gloves have been certified by the OEKO-TEX Association as skin safe from the second they comes into contact with the skin. This rating proves that the gloves can keep skin cool, dry and safe even in warm or uncomfortable working environments. The Skin Health Alliance have also rated the full ATG range 'dermatologically safe'.

Washing Instructions

Gloves from ATG can be washed safely in the following way:

1. Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions!)
2. Wash in warm to medium hot water, do not exceed 104°F (40°C)
3. Wash for 10 minutes
4. Rinse in cold water.
5. Repeat wash and rinse if soiling is especially heavy
6. Rinse in cold water
7. Tumble dry - maximum temperature 140°F (60°C)

When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps loosen and remove deep dirt.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the use of gloves and the laundering process glove performance can and will deteriorate. For critical areas requiring cut and heat resistance tests need to be conducted after use and laundering to ensure that the performance criteria still meet the needs of those using the glove. Safety Gloves can accept no liability once gloves have been washed.

What is EN 388?

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.
