Static build-up is usually harmless, however if you are working with highly charged electrical equipment, a potentially fatal discharge event may occur. This can cause static to trigger the release of huge amounts of electrostatic discharge, unless you are wearing the correct gloves and PPE.
What Is An Electrostatic Discharge Event?
An electrostatic discharge event occurs when two separately charged objects come into contact with one another, causing a connective charge to release in the form of an explosion. The size of the explosion depends on the magnitude of the charge.
Naturally, these events can result in severe burns, injury and even death.
