Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves
The Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves are the perfect choice for tasks that require enhanced dexterity and an excellent grip whilst still providing protection and remaining cut and puncture resistant. With a black leather palm and fingers and 100% Aramid Turtleskin protection bonded to the inside, the gloves provide the user with peace of mind when handling dangerous and sharp objects. The gloves are supplied in pairs.
Patented Turtleskin Material
Light, breathable and almost impenetrable, the Turtleskin fabric has the world's tightest weave and is so diverse and strong that it has been used by everyone from law enforcement, to the military, to NASA.
Features Aramid Fibre
Aramid material is weaved tight to provide superior protection from sharp objects including metal shards, needlesticks, knives and glass fragments. This tight weave prevents lateral fibre and inter-fibre shifting. For additional cut and puncture protection, the Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves have a palm side Aramid lining.
Comfortable design
Designed to be comfortable, the Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves feature a mesh liner and an adjustable Velcro closure to achieve a personalised fit, helping to ensure protection and maximum ease of use.
Testing of the Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves
The Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves feature a high abrasion resistance and a high tear resistance and meet the requirements of EN388 Cut Level 4.
Hazard | Resistance Rating |
Abrasion Resistant | 4 |
Cut Resistant | 4 |
Tear Resistant | 2 |
Puncture Resistant | 2 |

How Turtleskin Tests Puncture Resistance
Turtleskin use a 28 Gauge needle to test the resistance of their glove range. The needle is aimed at the glove at a 90 degree angle, at a velocity of 500mm/min. This is repeated 12 times and the average force required to puncture the glove is then recorded.
Applications of the Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves
- Law Enforcement
- Custodial and Prison Service
- General and Prison Services
Sizing Information for the Turtleskin Utility Safety Gloves
In order to select the correct size of safety glove, wrap a measuring tape around your hand, just below the knuckles at the fullest part (excluding your thumb) then measure the length of your middle finger from the tip to the bottom of your palm. Then compare your measurement with the chart below to ensure that you select the correct size of glove for your hand.
Glove Size | Width (cm) | Length (cm) |
Size 6 (Extra Small) | 15.2cm - 17.8cm | 16cm |
Size 7 (Small) | 17.8cm - 20.3cm | 17.1cm |
Size 8 (Medium) | 20.3cm - 22.9cm | 18.2cm |
Size 9 (Large) | 22.9cm - 25.4cm | 19.2cm |
Size 10 (Extra Large) | 25.4cm - 27.9cm | 20.4cm |
Size 11 (Extra Extra Large) | 27.9cm + | 21.5cm |
Where your measurement falls on the boundary of two sizes, we would recommend selecting the larger of the two sizes for a comfortable fit and to ensure accurate protection.

What is EN 388?
You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.
There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.
How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?
Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.
Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.
