Mechanical Protection Of the MaxiCut Gloves

EN 388: Mechanical Resistance

The MaxiCut Gloves are incredibly durable and provide resilient protection from a number of physical risks. This can be supported by their EN 388 scores, which demonstrate abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

Robust Oil-Resistant Gloves

With an oil-repellent nitrile coating that covers the palms and fingers, these gloves are the ideal safety gloves for working in oily and greasy conditions. This oil-resistant coating prevents oils and liquids from getting through the gloves, allowing users to safely handle slippery or oily materials and without getting hands wet or dirty. It is recommended users avoid getting oil of the backs of the hand however, as they are uncoated and won't provide the same level of resistance.

What Cut Protection Do These Safety Gloves Provide?

The Maxicut 34-504 Gloves have been tested to provide Level C cut resistance which offers medium protection against cut hazards with a force of up to 10 newtons. These protective gloves would be classed as offering similar levels of protection as cut level 5 gloves with cover the old EN 388:2003 standards.

How Much Grip Do They Provide In Oily Conditions?

It's important that users are able to maintain a secure grip in oily conditions to prevent tool slips and other accidents during manual handling applications. The MaxiCut Gloves feature a micro-cup finish on their nitrile coated palms and fingers, which creates traction between the gloves and other surfaces. This enhances grip for total control over both small and large components, even in wet or oily environments.

Are the MaxiCut Oil-Resistant Gloves Dexterous?

The MaxiCut Gloves are incredibly dexterous, especially since they offer such high levels of protection. They have a nylon and Spandex liner which fits snugly against the hand, and bends along with its natural movements. Additionally, this lightweight construction allows users to retain tactile sensitivity for more controlled handling.

How Durable Are the MaxiCut Oil-Resistant Gloves?

When working in rough and dirty environments, it's vital that your work gloves are durable enough to withstand heavy use and resist damage. The MaxiCut Gloves have the highest possible levels of abrasion and tear resistance, meaning they are likely to remain in good conditions despite being exposed to scratches and scrapes. They also have good puncture and cut resistance, so you can be sure of their resilience against a variety of risks.

How Do the MaxiCut Oil-Resistant Gloves Protect My Skin?

The MaxiCut Gloves have been certified by the Oeko-Tex Association as skin safe from the second they comes into contact with the skin. This rating proves that the gloves can keep skin cool, dry and safe even in warm or uncomfortable working environments. The Skin Health Alliance have also confirmed the entire ATG glove range is 'dermatologically safe', a certification which has not been awarded to any other protective glove range on the market.

Washing Instructions

Gloves from ATG can be washed safely in the following way:

1. Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions!)
2. Wash in warm to medium hot water, do not exceed 104°F (40°C)
3. Wash for 10 minutes
4. Rinse in cold water.
5. Repeat wash and rinse if soiling is especially heavy
6. Rinse in cold water
7. Tumble dry - maximum temperature 140°F (60°C)

When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps loosen and remove deep dirt.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the use of gloves and the laundering process glove performance can and will deteriorate. For critical areas requiring cut and heat resistance tests need to be conducted after use and laundering to ensure that the performance criteria still meet the needs of those using the glove. Safety Gloves can accept no liability once gloves have been washed.

What is EN 388?

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
