How Much Oil Resistance Do they Provide?
The MaxiCut Oil Resistant Gloves have nitrile rubber coated palms which repels oils and liquids away from the glove's surface for clean, dry hands. Additionally, the palms are fitted with a leather pad for an added layer of resistance and a more secure grip in even slippery conditions. It is recommended that users avoid getting oil on the backs and wrists of the gloves however, as they do not have the same level of resistance as the palms.
How Cut Resistant Are the MaxiCut Gloves?
These gloves combine highly resilient material with a reinforced design to achieve exceptional levels of cut resistance according to both new and old EN 388 standards.
The old rating was achieved by applying a circular blade to the gloves, and measuring how many cycles it would take for the blade to cut through the material. In comparison, the new test applies increasing levels of force to a material to see how long it takes for a sharp-edged blade to cut it.
The MaxiCut Gloves attain the second highest level of cut resistance according to the old standard and the third highest according to the new standard. They are therefore suitable for use in environments where there is a persistent risk of lacerations, and for dealing with sharp materials including glass and sheet metal.
What Else Do the MaxiCut Oil Resistant Gloves Protect Against?
The MaxiCut Gloves don't just protect your hands against oil and cuts. Their tough construction and leather exterior ensures they are able to protect against a variety of risks and elements. These include:
- Grease
- Liquids
- Abrasions
- Tears
- Punctures
- Dirt
Why Should I Trust the MaxiCut Oil Gloves?
To confirm these gloves ability to protect against mechanical risks, they have been tested to rigorous EN 388 standards. These tests help to demonstrate the abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance of the gloves, so you can be sure of their protective qualities. Following these tests, the MaxiCut Gloves attained the following ratings:
Hazard | Level of Resistance |
Abrasion Resistance | Level 4 |
Cut Resistance | Level 4 |
Tear Resistance | Level 4 |
Puncture Resistance | Level 4 |
Blade Cut | Level D |
What Do These Scores Mean?
Each score is rated out of 4, except for cut resistance which is rated out of 5 and blade cut resistance which is rated from A-F. The ratings show that the gloves achieve the highest possible levels of resistance for every standard except cut resistance, and are therefore able to protect against scratches, scrapes and splintered materials. While not the top level, they are highly cut resistant for reliable protection against lacerations. These scores show that the MaxiCut Oil Gloves are suitable for environments where there is a significant risk of physical injury.
How Is Technology Used to Enhance Performance?
Innovative technologies have been used to optimise the attributes of these gloves so that they are as comfortable and dexterous as they are protective. These technologies include:
- CUTtech: high performance yarns and fibres are utilised to create a resilient material that remains lightweight and breathable
- LIQUItech: Two technology platforms are layered on top of one another for resistance against oils and liquids
- DURAtech: The gloves are highly abrasion and tear resistant for better longevity and are also designed to be laundered so they can be kept in good condition
- ERGOtech: A snug, ultra-thin design ensures the gloves fit snugly against the hand and mimic its natural movements for maximum dexterity
- GRIPtech: The nitrile coating of these gloves has a micro-cup finish which enhances grip in dry, wet or oily conditions
How Do the MaxiCut Gloves Preserve Grip In Oily Conditions?
In oily or greasy conditions, there is a higher risk of injury and damage caused by dropped objects. To guarantee grip in such slippery conditions, the MaxiCut Gloves have a textured, micro-cups finish. This coating is rough to the touch and therefore creates friction between the gloves and other surfaces for a more secure grip. This improves safety and productivity in oily handling conditions, especially where materials that can cause physical injury (such as glass or sharp metal) are involved.
Are the MaxiCut Gloves Dexterous?
The flexible nylon and Spandex liner of these gloves preserves user dexterity. It fits snugly against the hand without adding excess bulk, almost like a second skin. This allows users to retain a full range of movement, as well as good tactile sensitivity for better hand control during manual handling tasks.
How Durable Are the MaxiCut Gloves?
These gloves are incredibly durable thanks to their top levels of abrasion, tear and puncture resistance as well as their high level of puncture resistance. They are able to resist damage caused by sharp and rough objects so you can feel confident in their expected longevity.
How Do the MaxiCut Oil Resistant Gloves Protect My Skin?
The MaxiFlex Gloves have been certified by the Oeko-Tex Association as skin safe from the second they comes into contact with the skin. This rating proves that the gloves can keep skin cool, dry and safe even in warm or uncomfortable working environments. The Skin Health Alliance have also rated the full ATG range 'dermatologically safe'.

Gloves from ATG can be washed safely in the following way:
1. Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions!)
2. Wash in warm to medium hot water, do not exceed 104°F (40°C)
3. Wash for 10 minutes
4. Rinse in cold water.
5. Repeat wash and rinse if soiling is especially heavy
6. Rinse in cold water
7. Tumble dry - maximum temperature 140°F (60°C)
When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps loosen and remove deep dirt.
IMPORTANT NOTE
During the use of gloves and the laundering process glove performance can and will deteriorate. For critical areas requiring cut and heat resistance tests need to be conducted after use and laundering to ensure that the performance criteria still meet the needs of those using the glove. Safety Gloves can accept no liability once gloves have been washed.
What is EN 388?
You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.
There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.
How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?
Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.
Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.
