  • EN 374-1: Type A: AJKLMNOPST

EN 374-1 is a European regulation governing the sale of chemical resistant garments. It uses a series of tests to award a glove a rating based on the penetration, degradation and permeation resistance of the garment.

Chemical Protection Level Breakthrough Time
Methanol Level 3 > 60 minutes
n-Heptane Level 6 > 480 minutes
Sodium Hydroxide 40% Level 6  > 480 minutes
Sulphuric Acid 96% Level 4 > 120 minutes

Formaldehyde 37% Level 6 > 480 minutes

EN 388: Mechanical Resistance

  • EN 388: 3110X

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves' performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring the fabric's abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

Standard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Resistance Level 3
Cut Resistance Level 1
Tear Resistance Level 1
Puncture Resistance Level 0
ISO Cut Resistance N/A

EN 374-5: Resistance to Micro-organisms

These gloves comply with European Standards for protection against bacteria and fungi.

Extended-Cuff Glove Design

Working with chemicals is dangerous at the best of times. If your work means you'll come into direct contact with solvents and chemicals at any stage, you need gloves with an extended wrist cuff that covers more of the arm.

Delta Plus VE509 Chemical Gloves extended further up the forearm, making the total length of these gloves a whopping 30cm. This extra protection ensures splashes and droplets don't make contact with traditionally exposed areas of the arm.

Thick Fingertip Construction

If you take a look at Delta Plus VE509 Neoprene Chemical Gloves, you'll notice that the fingertips are thicker than standard. This is to promote a strong grip, whereby objects and material aren't dropped easily.

If you work with containers, implements or tools, this inclusion is perfect. You'll instantly feel the different when you clench your hand into a fist due to the amount of material that is built up around the fingers.

Comfortable Cotton Flock Lining

If you're concerned about sweating and discomfort during the workday, a flocked design is perfect for you. Soft and comfortable, the lined interior of Delta Plus VE509 Chemical Gloves is kind on sensitive-skin because it reduces friction and rubbing when your skin starts to perspire.

Materials

  • Support: Neoprene (100%)
  • Flocking: Cotton (100%)

What is EN 388?

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
